Local Environmental Observer (LEO) Program Overview. Presented by Mike Brubaker, ANTHC. Developed by the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) and funded by the US EPA and the BOEM, The Local Environmental Observer (LEO) Network connects people through information about our shared environment. The LEO Network utilizes web-accessible maps to display observations which are then shared with network members. The maps contain descriptions, photos, expert consultations and links to information resources. Please join us for a live demonstration and discussion about the LEO network.
Wednesday, October 18: Implementing Executive Order 13807: Establishing Discipline and Accountability in the Environmental Review and Permitting Process Webinar:This webinar will provide an overview of Executive Order 13807: Establishing Discipline and Accountability in the Environmental Review and Permitting Process, which was signed by President Trump on August 15, 2017. The purpose of this Order is to change the way the federal government processes environmental reviews and authorization decisions for infrastructure projects as a means to transform our economy. The panel will describe actions being taken to implement the Order including the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s (CEQ) initial list of actions published in the Federal Register on September 14, 2017, as well as the Department of the Interior’s Secretarial Order 3355 issued on August 31, 2017 that requires firm page and time limits for Environmental Impact Statements. The panel will also share perspectives on streamlining and best practices that have proven to accelerate and improve the federal environmental review and decision-making process.

Moderating this panel is Shannon Stewart, NAEP Education Committee Chair, former National NEPA Lead for the Bureau of Land Management, and author of "NEPA as a Tool for Strategic Analysis and Decision Making" (Environmental Practice; Vol 16, No 4) an article highlighting the benefits of programmatic NEPA.
The webinar begins at 11:00 am AKST and runs 90 minutes, including Q&A. It will be held at HDR, 4th floor conference room, 2525 C Street, Anchorage. The Alaska Association of Environmental Professionals has provided a forum for information exchange through our regular "Brown Bag" seminars, which are meetings held monthly from September through May, with informal presentations by speakers selected for topics of interest.
